Long before Sp3ctrum Creation Lab became a space for people to craft their own fragrances, Sp3ctrum represented a heartfelt promise I made to myself: to find a way to lead a creative life while being fully present for my children.
In 2008, I founded my first company, Sp3ctrum Cosmetics, in my garage in Elk Grove, California. I was searching for a way to create something meaningful of my own while fully caring for my son, Alijah.
Alijah was born with a congenital heart condition and was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at age three. He is the heartfelt reason behind the unique spelling of Sp3ctrum with a 3.
The name began as a tribute to him, but over the years, it grew to represent so much more. It came to symbolize individuality, adaptability, creativity, and the understanding that no two people experience the world in exactly the same way. That belief remains at the heart of everything I create today. I became a California State-licensed skin therapist in 2009 and spent over 18 years working as a makeup artist for celebrities. Makeup taught me how profoundly personal beauty truly is. Two people can wear the same color, product, or style and experience it in entirely different ways.
Most importantly, it taught me the importance of genuinely listening.
My clients weren’t just seeking someone to apply makeup; they were looking to be understood. They wanted their personalities, preferences, and comfort levels to be acknowledged. I realized that the most meaningful transformations happen when people feel truly seen and accepted, rather than pressured to conform to someone else’s idea of beauty. That same philosophy now guides my work as a perfumer.
In April 2012, I launched my first Eau de Parfum, Unicorn Breath, as a birthday project. I shared it online, and it unexpectedly went viral on Instagram. That moment showed me how powerfully people connect with fragrance. A scent can bring back a memory, shift a mood, spark confidence, or express something that may be difficult to put into words.
In 2015, I opened Sp3ctrum Makeup & Brow Bar in Elk Grove. It was located in the same building where Sp3ctrum Creation Lab lives today. Returning to that space as a perfumer feels like coming back to an earlier chapter of my life with a much clearer understanding of what I was always meant to create. Over time, my curiosity about fragrance developed into an in-depth study of perfume composition, including the detailed analysis of aroma materials, the nuances of sensory experiences, and the complex emotional language conveyed through scent. I did not want to create a perfume experience that felt intimidating, overly technical, or built around someone else deciding what a person should like.
I wanted to create a space where people could slow down, trust their own senses, explore without judgment, and make something that felt unmistakably theirs. That vision became Sp3ctrum Creation Lab.
My life has also taught me that creativity does not always happen under perfect circumstances. I live with idiopathic intracranial hypertension, a rare neurological disorder that I manage daily. Living with a chronic condition has changed the way I understand time, energy, patience, and accessibility. It has taught me to meet people where they are and to create experiences that feel supportive rather than rushed or performative. Many of the people who visit the Lab tell me that they are not “good at fragrance,” do not know the correct terminology, or worry that they will choose the wrong notes.
I understand that feeling.
At Sp3ctrum Creation Lab, there is no pressure to be an expert. You do not need an impressive fragrance vocabulary or a perfectly defined personal style. You only need to notice what makes you curious, what feels familiar, and what your body and mind naturally enjoy. My role is to help you translate those responses into a fragrance that feels balanced, beautiful, and personal.
Today, Sp3ctrum Creation Lab brings together every part of my journey: caregiving, beauty, artistry, fragrance, science, technology, and entrepreneurship. It began as a way for me to care for my son while building a future for our family. It has grown into an independent micro-perfumery and scent studio where people come to celebrate birthdays, date nights, friendships, milestones, memories, and themselves.
Every person enters the Lab with a different story.
Some want to recreate a feeling they cannot quite name. Some want a scent that feels like a new chapter. Others simply want to spend a few hours laughing, experimenting, and making something that belongs only to them.
